YOGA AT ROOTS
ROOTS is a young adult shelter in the University District that provides overnight shelter, meals, and support to homeless 18 to 26 year olds. Up to 45 young adults can get off the street each night as a result of this incredible organization. The ROOTS executives were kind enough to let me practice teach there during my teacher training. Since then, it has evolved into a weekly program that provides a regular, safe, respectful, and compassionate environment to practice yoga. I currently share teaching duties with ROOTS' Americorp volunteer, Hannah. Needless to say, it's not your average yoga class.
Due to confidentiality practices, Yoga at ROOTS is reserved for those who either stay, volunteer, or work at the shelter. If you'd like to support this project or to volunteer please do so through ROOTS website. For more information about our yoga program please feel free to contact me.
Check out the ROOTS website at ROOTSinfo.org, then subscribe, donate, or volunteer!
YOGA AT 2.0/CKO
Want the most fun cardio workout you've ever had? Then join me at 2.0/CKO Kickboxing. Jessica and "Team Rennon" will get you revved up and help keep you motivated. And in case you're wondering, the CKO Kickboxing classes look a lot like yoga classes - in terms of people - all ages (my first class had a woman over 70 taking her first class!), all sizes, they have special classes for "kid boxing". It's really an amazing sport and a spectacular facility and ridiculously awesome instructors!
At their expanded studio, 2.0 - has a wide selection of fitness programs (including yoga) to help meet all of your fitness and conditioning needs. At 2.0 /CKO - I primarily lead classes in a "yin" style yoga that allows for deep and extended stretching, heavy focus on breath and mindfulness. These classes are the perfect complement to the highly "yang" or active and heat building focus of kickboxing. These classes are also the perfect complement to a hectic and stressful life. Do you bike? Run? Play soccer? Then a class or three of yin is just what those quads are screaming for. In "yin" we focus on not only our muscles, but also our inter-connective tissue fascia, ligaments, tendons - to give them the opportunity - the time and the pose to allow for this deep tissue group to really rejuvenate, stretch, and re-hydrate. Our poses in yin are primarily ground based (as opposed to standing/balancing/etc.), frequently supported (lots of toys - blocks, straps, blankets), and highly meditative.
YOGA FOR YOU ... and just YOU
Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to delve into yoga. And each and every one of those reasons is valid. Whether it is physical development (strength, flexibility, illness/injury recovery, breathe and aerobic work, training for a specific event, etc.), mental/emotional development (awareness, mental focus, balance, clarity, etc.), I can help you with a yoga program to meet your needs and your goals.
